Rotary International is famous world-wide for our Polio Eradication Program.  At the local level in March, 2009, Kari Anderson joined forces with The New Generations Club to work the crowds at the "Put Polio on Ice" event at the CBB Arena's Reign Hockey Game.  They sold 50/50 tickets to the large crowd of attendees which included many Rotary clubs from our region.

Claremont Sunrise Rotary has a very active International Service focus.  Each year we come together with other Rotary clubs to build a home in one day across the border in Mexico.  We work with a fantastic organization called Corazon, which coordinates the process. Link here to the full page story:   Activities-Mexico House Project

Landmine Removal Efforts

-------

2009-We recently received a Thank-You Note from HALO for matched-fund contributions toward landmine removal in NW Cambodia:

2008--Thanks to the onsite investigations of former member Wolfgang Jockusch in Afghanistan, and the stateside efforts of Lisa Hahn-Smith, Claremont Sunrise began leading the way in D5300 by participating in Rotarians for Mine Action.  Besides providing funds to HALO International to clear mines from cultivatable land in Afghanistan and elsewhere, we raised the awareness within our district of the importance of mine removal.  http://www.rfma.org/AboutUs.htm

De-mining Afghanistan

On Feb. 18, 2008, CSR held a Land Mine Awareness Dinner at Walter's Restaurant--see the article here--

Water wells or other fresh water availability in Third Word countries has also been a part of our mix.  Rev. Doug's organization has been tapped previously to get the job done with the benefit of our contributions.

We recently participated with other District 5300 clubs on a project in Uganda to set up "fishing pole" education and vocational training programs.  Click here for an expanded story:    Uganda Story

Paul Harris Fellowships acknowledge the genorosity of individual club members toward the RI Foundation-run projects.  There has been a great response this year for increasing our club's Paul Harris Fellowships.
