Claremont Sunrise Rotary promotes and supports vocations for the youth of our community in many proactive ways.

Our Youth/ Vocational Chair 2008-2009 is Al Jack

Committee Members-Debbie Lantz

                                       -Ken Rowland

                                       -Chuck Freitas

                                       -Garry Schneider

Our club has been a supporter and involved with both RYLA and TLC to give Leadership Building opportunities to High School and Middle School students at a special weekend camp in Idyllwild.

We are involved annually with the Dan Stover Music competition, being on the lookout for bright, talented high school seniors that have a musical gift.

Many students involved in speech and debate at the high school level will go on to careers in law, politics, and other positions of leadership in business and the corporate world.  We encourage these students to hone their skills while engaging in ethical concepts through the 4 Way Test Speech Competition.

4 Way Test Speech 2009 Semi-Finalists For 2009, Madeline Zhu (second from left), was the Claremont High School Junior that our Club sponsored for the 4-way Speech Contest and she won the Semi-Final competition  held at The Double Tree Hotel in Claremont.

Madeline will be one of the FINALISTS in the competition at the District Conference at the Marriott Hotel in Palm Desert.  The finalists will give their speeches on Fri. May 29th, 2009 from 7:00PM ~ 9:00PM with the overall winner and runners-up being announced directly after the competition, with the winner receiving $5,000 cash prize as a college scholarship. The runner-ups will receive $1,250 each.
Madeline gave a wonderful speech referencing the 4-way test that was focused on the value of education and how Rotary International has supported this theme worldwide with an example of a student who came to the US for his education then returned to his native country to share his educational skills. Madeline mentioned the Reading by 9 program and how supportive Rotary is on the world scene in teaching people how to read.
Madeline is currently in AP courses and after completing Claremont High School would like to major in Forensic Anthropology to  aid in the study of war crimes.
Sunrise Rotarians that attended the competition, were: Dan Kentner, Alan Jack & Bev and Jack McDermott, M.D.  Brett Conner - CHS Prinicipal was in attendance, as a member of the Noon Club.
